Alexander

A shaken cocktail featuring Cognac, Crème de Cacao (Dark), Cream.

Alexander cocktail

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Cognac
  • 30 ml Crème de Cacao (Dark)
  • 30 ml Cream
  • 1 Nutmeg

Method

  1. Add Cognac, Crème de Cacao (Dark) and Cream to a shaker.
  2. Add ice and shake until cold.
  3. Strain into a coupe over fresh ice.
  4. Optional garnish: grated nutmeg.

Story

The first Alexanders, around 1915, were made with gin; the brandy version took over later. John Lennon was famously fond of them, which contributed to a rowdy night at the Troubadour in 1974.
