A built cocktail featuring Cognac, Ginger beer, Angostura aromatic bitters.

Horse’s Neck cocktail

Ingredients

  • 40 ml Cognac
  • 120 ml Ginger Beer
  • 1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Method

  1. Fill a highball glass with fresh ice.
  2. Add Cognac, Angostura aromatic bitters.
  3. Add Ginger Beer last and stir gently to combine.
  4. Optional garnish: a long spiral of lemon peel.

Story

A bourbon-and-ginger-ale highball from the 1890s, named after the long spiral of lemon peel that hangs over the rim. It was a favourite of Royal Navy officers in the 20th century.
