A stirred cocktail featuring Brandy, Orgeat Syrup, Angostura aromatic bitters.

Japanese cocktail cocktail

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Brandy
  • 15 ml Orgeat
  • 2 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Method

  1. Combine Brandy, Orgeat and Angostura aromatic bitters in a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir until cold and diluted.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe.
  4. Optional garnish: lemon peel.

Story

Jerry Thomas's 1862 recipe of brandy, orgeat and bitters, probably named to mark the first Japanese diplomatic mission to the United States in 1860. It contains nothing Japanese.
