Method

Shake all ingredients with ice.
Double strain into chilled coupe.
Serve without garnish.

Story

Prohibition-era, from the Detroit Athletic Club around 1916. It was forgotten until Murray Stenson found it in an old book and put it on the menu at Seattle's Zig Zag Café in 2004, after which its equal-parts formula inspired dozens of variations.
