Whiskey and vermouth stirred classic.

Manhattan cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rye Whiskey
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • 2 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
  • 1 piece Cocktail Cherry

Method

  1. Stir the rye, sweet vermouth, and bitters with ice.
  2. Strain into chilled Nick & Nora glass.
  3. Garnish with cherry.

Story

One of the first cocktails to use vermouth, born in New York in the 1870s or early 1880s. The story that it was created at the Manhattan Club for a party given by Jennie Jerome, Winston Churchill's mother, is a myth: she was in England, about to give birth, on the date usually cited.
