Cocktail recipe
Tom Macy’s Gimlet
A shaken cocktail featuring Gin, Lime juice, Simple Syrup.

Ingredients
- 60 ml Gin
- 15 ml Lime Juice
- 22.5 ml Simple Syrup
Method
- Shake the gin, lime juice, and syrup with ice until cold.
- Double-strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass.
- Optional fresh-lime variation: muddle a few additional lime wedges with the syrup before shaking.
Story
The Royal Navy drank lime juice against scurvy, and Lauchlan Rose's preserved lime cordial of 1867 made it easy to carry; gin followed naturally. Raymond Chandler put it in The Long Goodbye: 'a real gimlet is half gin and half Rose's lime juice and nothing else'.
